The filmmaker
The stories speak for themselves.
Born in Trail, British Columbia and raised across Canada, Australia, and Singapore, Adam's path to filmmaking was anything but traditional. When his father passed away at age 23, Adam was forced to step into responsibility overnight, learning how to operate in high-pressure, unpredictable environments that demanded adaptability, discretion, and follow-through. Those early experiences became the foundation of his producing style: calm under pressure, collaborative by nature, and relentlessly focused on execution.
Adam formally pursued storytelling at the William Esper Studio in Manhattan, and soon after financed his first feature documentary, The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, with every dollar he had. The film became a global cult classic, screening at 33 film festivals, winning multiple Best Documentary awards, and sparking international conversation. Its follow-up, The Culture High, expanded the dialogue and, along with The Union, was screened on Parliament Hill during Canada's cannabis legalization process, helping inform policymakers ahead of the 2018 legislation.
With a background as a Golden Gloves boxer, Adam's curiosity about strength, identity, and sacrifice carried into Ice Guardians, an unflinching examination of the enforcer role in the NHL. The film premiered to critical acclaim, reached a global audience on Netflix, and is widely regarded as one of the most impactful hockey documentaries ever made.
Through Score G Productions, Adam has built one of Canada's most successful independent documentary companies, securing back-to-back studio releases with Inmate #1: The Rise of Danny Trejo, Bisping, and Breaking Olympia: The Phil Heath Story. All three Universal acquisitions topped the iTunes charts and remain among the studio's most successful documentary releases.
With more than a dozen feature documentaries completed, and upcoming releases including Dolph: Unbreakable and Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story arriving in summer 2026, following the 2025 releases of Tootoo: The Jordin Tootoo Story and the Bif Naked documentary — Adam continues to focus on stories that explore resilience, identity, and what it truly takes to endure.
A devoted husband and father, Adam balances a demanding creative life with a deep commitment to family, loyalty to his collaborators, and mentorship within the filmmaking community.
“Passion, relentless perseverance, and creative hustle are the keys to unlocking extraordinary stories.”
— Adam Scorgie
