22 Days at #1. One Incredible Ride.

For 22 consecutive days, Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story was the #1 documentary on U.S. iTunes. It even hit #8 across all movies, rubbing shoulders with studio giants whose marketing campaigns cost more than our entire film. We brought a smaller wallet and a hell of a story. 😉
We knew we had something special when we watched the first rough cut. Over nearly two decades and six documentaries together, Brett Harvey has consistently brought heart, honesty and extraordinary storytelling to the screen. Watching audiences connect with Funny Money reminds us why we keep doing this.
Add our first Critics Choice Documentary Award nomination for Best True Crime Documentary, four AMPIA nominations and 16 positive reviews out of 16, and we have plenty to celebrate—and even more to be thankful for.
A heartfelt thank-you to Dane and his sisters, Courtney and Kelly, for trusting us with such a personal story. Opening up about betrayal, heartbreak and the moments you’re still making sense of takes real courage. Dane’s ability to find humour through it all, including at his own expense, is part of what makes this film so human.
A special thank-you to Jhod Cardinal and Upstream Flix. Jhod has stood beside us since The Culture High in 2014. Together, we’ve topped the charts eight times, secured four Netflix deals and landed three studio deals with Universal Pictures. That’s a hell of a run, built on trust, persistence and a shared belief in these films.
We often celebrate the directors, editors, cinematographers and creative teams, but getting their work into the world takes an extraordinary distribution partner, too. Jhod is family—a brother and a true teammate who gets in the trenches with us and keeps fighting for these films long after the easy work is done.
Thank you, Jhod, for the hustle, the honesty and the belief. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, but even more grateful for the friendship we’ve built along the way. So much of this success has your fingerprints on it.
To everyone who rented, watched, reviewed, shared or told a friend: you helped this film reach an audience we could never have reached on our own. Every recommendation matters. Thank you for backing the film and the people who poured themselves into making it.
Next stop: the big red! 🔴 Check out Dane’s reveal video and hit “Remind Me” on Netflix. Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story arrives on Netflix November 6 in the U.S., UK and Australia, and on Super Channel in Canada that same day.
Thank you for being part of this ride. Still plenty of hustle left—let’s see what we can do on the streaming charts next.
